Court Colman Manor Hotel is an 18th Century Manor house situated in the beautiful Glamorgan countryside. When I visited the Manor to meet with Claire & Jon to discuss their wedding day, I was overwhelmed by it’s beauty.
It is a hotel that has managed to maintain it’s traditional features, and I could not wait to shoot their wedding here!
The day began with sunshine, and it ended that way too, not letting up all day!
The bridal preparations took place at Claire’s mum & dad’s house, and Meg & Jeff certainly made sure the morning ran smoothly. Hair was being done in the conservatory by Sharon Odette and Lauren Ellis worked her magic with the make-up in the kitchen, while the bride and bridesmaids popped the prosecco and started the day in style.
The bustle and excitement of bridal preparations is one of my favourite parts of a wedding day, photographing the details such as the wedding dress, jewellery, shoes and bouquets is something I absolutely love, the flowers today were by David Jones Florists and they were so pretty! The soft lilac tones matching the bridesmaids dresses perfectly!
Over at Court Colman Manor I arrived to find the ceremony room looking splendid, it’s marble pillars and incredible decorative ceilings are simply stunning, giving a beautiful, elegant setting for the wedding ceremony. As I walked in I found myself being serenaded by Ogmore Valley Male Voice Choir as they were warming up, (Claire’s father Jeff sings in the choir and he couldn’t help but join them later as they sang during the signing of the register!).
Claire arrived to Court Colman in a beautiful white Rolls Royce, she looked the perfect bride as she stepped out of the car and walked into the hotel with her bridesmaids.
Jon was waiting at the top of the isle with his best “lady” Amy (the pair of them like school children laughing and joking as they waited for Claire’s arrival!-Amy is from Newcastle and what a character, I loved her!) I think the banter hid his nerves well, but as Claire entered the room his emotions showed and he beamed as she walked down the isle towards him.
After the ceremony the choir sang ‘Calon Lan’, Claire’s favourite song, and there was such emotion as they sang, I love this song and hearing it sung by a male voice choir was something I’ll always remember, it was so moving. I loved how Claire and her father stood together to watch it, her father singing along too. Claire had to hold back the tears! An absolutely beautiful moment…
The wedding breakfast was served and both the father of the bride and the groom gave emotional tributes to Claire, whilst also fitting in some moments of laughter, both sharing the fact that Claire is unbelievably accident prone, and her father even passing over the first aid kit he has had for years to her new husband!
I loved how Jon thanked Amy for being his best ‘man’, and she did a fantastic job of it too!
When photographing weddings, I will always try to accommodate photography requests as much as possible, and I had great fun taking the heart shaped group shot that Claire wanted, after many hot and sweaty(!) trips running up and downstairs to get keys to find the best available room to take the photograph from (with all my kit on), I finally found one on the 2nd floor that was just right. Everyone cheered when I poked my head out of the window!
I felt like Anneka Rice in Treasure Hunt! (for those of you like me that are old enough to remember!)
As the day went from afternoon to evening, the sun finally softened as I knew it would and I took Claire & Jon for a walk across the lawn in front of the house for their couple portraits. A few moments away from the guests, just the two of them, and me to gently guide them for some natural posed shots. Whilst doing this I find that the bride and groom begin to relax and it allows me to shoot some lovely natural moments which I absolutely love… always my favourite images of the day.
Court Colman Manor has spectacular views across the Welsh countryside, and it provides the most beautiful setting for a wedding, particularly on a day like Claire & Jon were blessed to have.
I had an amazing day shooting their wedding day, it was full of fun and laughs, just as a wedding should be.
I hope you enjoy their images…
